The Island Care & Maintenance Guide
Your Fabuwood cabinetry is engineered with the Q12 Quality Standard, featuring a multi-layered Pro-Touch™ finish
designed to withstand the elements. However, Hawaii’s unique tropical environment requires a little extra mālama (care).
1. Managing the "Island Breath" (Humidity)
Wood naturally expands and contracts with changes in humidity. In Hawaii, our humidity can swing from 50% to 90% in a single day.
- The Sweet Spot: Aim to keep your home between 40% and 60% humidity.
- Airflow is Key: On humid, "sticky" days, utilize your ceiling fans or A/C. Stagnant, moist air is the enemy of wood joinery.
- Normal Movement: Don't panic if you see a tiny gap in a miter joint during a dry spell; the wood is simply "breathing" and will likely settle when the trades return.
2. The "Salt-Air" Shield
If you live within five miles of the coast, salt spray can settle on your cabinet surfaces.
- The Wipe-Down: Once a month, wipe your cabinet faces with a soft, lint-free cloth dampened with warm water and a drop of mild dish soap.
- Dry Immediately: Never leave water "beading" on the surface. Dry it immediately with a clean microfiber towel to prevent salt-spotting.
3. Hinge & Hardware Health
Your cabinets feature world-class Blum® hinges.
